My first cleaning job paid $2.
My mother would give me two bucks to vacuum and clean the house. It wasn’t much, but it taught me the value of cleanliness—and the satisfaction of doing a job properly.
I carried that with me into the restaurant industry, where cleanliness and consistency are simply part of the job. Then I went to work aboard luxury yachts, and the standards reached a whole new level.
These weren’t just boats. They were yachts worth millions of dollars, maintained for owners and guests who expected every detail to be perfect. Even the smallest flaw stood out.
Every surface required the right care. Stainless steel, glass, teak, and hardware each had their own proper methods. Taking a shortcut wasn’t just careless—it could become a very expensive mistake.
And yes, I cleaned plenty of things with a toothbrush.
Working in that environment trained me to notice what others might miss. It taught me patience, discipline, and respect for the things entrusted to my care.
Not long after I left the industry, Below Deck gave people a glimpse into the yachting world. Television may add some drama, but the constant upkeep, high expectations, and attention to detail are absolutely real.
Eventually, I brought those lessons home and built them into my own business.
Today, through Bare Bones Pressure Wash, I bring that same care to homes, businesses, and commercial properties throughout our community.
The setting may be different, but my approach hasn’t changed: use the right method, respect the property, and take pride in the result.
